Kothari Jewels

Heirlooms of the pink city — where a goldsmith's chisel still answers to lamplight, and every jewel is whispered into being.

Born in the Pink City

Jaipur's legacy in every jewel

Three centuries ago, when Sawai Jai Singh II drew Jaipur out of the Aravalli dust, he brought with him the craftsmen who would give the city its second name — the jewellery capital of India. Guilds of goldsmiths, setters and enamellers were given lanes of their own, and the lamps of Johari Bazaar have not gone dark since.

Kothari Jewels was born of that lineage. What began at a single bench — one forge, one karigar, a ledger written in ink — grew, generation by generation, into a house entrusted with the jewels a family wears only on the days it will remember forever.

We still set polki by hand, still foil kundan in 24k, still finish a piece only when the master says it is finished. The city taught us patience. We have simply refused to unlearn it.

  1. 1727

Sawai Jai Singh II founds Jaipur and settles its artisan guilds — goldsmiths, meenakars and setters given lanes of their own.

  2. 1890s

Johari Bazaar becomes the gem heart of India; uncut polki and kundan travel from Jaipur to every princely court.

  3. 1960s

The first Kothari bench opens — one forge, one karigar, one ledger written by hand.

  4. Today

Four generations on, the house works from Govind Marg — the same craft, a wider world.

✦ A Closer Look ✦

Every facet, a story carved in gold.

Held to the light, a Kothari jewel turns like a slow, unhurried hymn — each facet catching the lamp, each stone answering with a patient fire lit centuries ago in the workshops of Jaipur.

Client Stories

Spoken by those who wear it

My mother's polki haar was re-set for my wedding by the same family who made it in 1978. Nothing about it felt new, and that was the point.

Ananya Rathore

Bride · Udaipur, 2024

They refused to hurry us. Three visits, two sketches and a cup of kesar chai later, we had a sarpech my father would have recognised.

Vikram Singhania

Bespoke commission · Delhi

The meenakari on the reverse is finer than the front. Only a house that expects to be judged by its hidden work does that.

Ritika Mehta

Collector · Mumbai

We came for one choker and stayed for the afternoon. The bench was open, the karigars explained everything, nothing was rushed.

Sanya & Aditya

Trousseau · Jaipur, 2025

Twelve weeks, three fittings, and a piece that my daughter has already claimed for her own wedding.
